So, if you are still using the older version then don’t think twice and download the latest DVDFab 11 software either for your Mac or Windows PC. In this article, we will give you a good review about DVDFab UHD copy, UHD ripper, and UHD creator.
DVDFab 11 UHD Copy & Ripper & Creator Review
The DVDFab 11 UHD Copy, UHD Ripper, and UHD Creator are the respective sub-functions of the main DVDFab 11 functions which are Copy, Rip, Convert, and Create (DVD, Blu-ray, and UHD). However, in this article, we will skip the converter function for a while and explain the functions mentioned above.
DVDFab 11 UHD Copy Review
A UHD or a 4K UHD (BD100) disc is the current standard for ultra high definition entertainment. A UHD disc can hold up to 100GB of data, so you can imagine how superior the quality should be with a 4K resolution. If you own several UHD discs then making their backups is crucial before the discs wear out. But purchasing a blank UHD disc for copy purpose is not at all an affordable option. The best option would be to save those UHD discs in a 1:1 lossless ratio using the clone/burn function of DVDFab 11 UHD Copy.
Another good option is to copy your UHD discs on BD-50/25 discs which are much cheaper. The copying process is done by DVDFab UHD Copy software which retains the latter disc’s 2160p quality on the newer BD-50/25 disc. This way you can save a lot of money without compromising the picture quality. And the copied discs will be supported by a wide range of Blu-ray players and BD-ROM drives. If you want to burn a disc at all then save the UHD disc as a BD100 (lossless 1:1 copy), BD66, BD50, or BD25 ISO.
The UHD Copy function has three sub-functions which are as follows.
1. Full Disc
If you want to completely copy UHD disc then use the ‘Full Disc’ function. You can copy the disc to a blank BD50/25 disc or make an ISO and save on your computer’s hard drive. There are four UHD disc configurations out of which you have to select any one. These disc configurations are as follows and are available to select from ‘Advanced Settings’.
Copy the entire 4K UHD Blu-ray disc to an ISO file or folder with BD-100 2160p quality. This would be 1:1 lossless conversion. The quality will be the same in the output disc/ISO as that of the source disc. For some compatibility issues, DVDFab doesn’t allow burning a blank BD100 disc. You can only copy and save a BD100 ISO but can burn a BD50/25 disc.
Copy and compress the entire UHD Blu-ray source to a BD66 folder/ISO file, with 2160p quality. It is not a lossless conversion because this output requires compression of BD-100 media to fit under 66GB data on the BD66 ISO. Actually, BD66 physical discs don’t exist in reality. DVDFab uses BD66 to compress a BD100 to consume less disc space while retaining the 2160p quality. You can burn the UHD Blu-ray source to a BD-100 disc if you choose the output as BD66 on Advanced Settings panel.
Copy and compress the entire UHD Blu-ray disc to a BD50 disc/folder/ISO file, with 2160p quality. It is also not a lossless conversion because this output requires compression of BD-100 media to fit on a BD-50 disc. And again the 2160p quality is retained so again you may not be able to spot any significant picture quality differences.
Copy and compress the entire UHD Blu-ray disc to a BD-25 disc/folder/ISO file, with 2160p quality. Again this is not a lossless conversion because this output requires compression of BD-100 media to fit on a BD-25 disc. Here the size is being reduced by 4 times the original disc, so you will notice quality differences. However, the 2160p quality is retained.
2. Main Movie
If you want to copy only the main movie and want to skip the menus and any other unwanted media from the UHD Blu-ray source then opt for the Main Movie Copy mode. The UHD disc have multiple video files so you can choose the main movie yourself also by clicking the ‘Choose Other Titles’ options. The Main Movie Copy mode also gives four-disc configurations which are BD100, BD50, BD25, and BD66. These configurations have exactly the same meaning that you read above in the ‘Full Disc” copy mode.
The Clone/Burn function only copies the entire UHD Blu-ray source to an ISO file with BD-100 2160p quality (lossless 1:1 copy). Simply saying, it makes a UHD digital copy of the original physical 4K UHD disc. It is a 1:1 lossless conversion so there won’t be any picture quality differences that you can notice.
Note on Disc Decryption: Commercially produced UHD discs come with some kinds of copy protection. And the good news here is that DVDFab automatically removes the disc encryption by-default without even letting you know. This disc encryption prevents you from copying the disc contents. But DVDFab UHD Copy removes it while copying the disc and all the sub-functions support it.
DVDFab 11 UHD Ripper Review
UHD ripping simply means converting the disc media to some other portable or container formats like MP4. MP4 and MKV are highly preferred because MKV and MP4 both provide high definition quality with or without using video compression. Not all people have expensive UHD players in their home so to eliminate the need for a UHD player one should rip 4K UHD disc or ISO and convert them to portable formats. After ripping the disc or the ISO you can play the UHD movies on every other device like TVs, smartphones, tablets, and PCs.
If you don’t want to compromise in the quality then DVDFab UHD Ripper provides two passthrough (MP4, MKV) formats which equal the original video quality of the UHD disc. There are a total of six video profiles available for UHD ripper which are MKV Passthrough, M2TS Passthrough, MKV.4K.H265.10bit, M2TS.4K.H265.10bit, MP4.SDR and MKV.SDR. If you choose the first 4 profiles, the HDR10 quality will be preserved. HDR10 is a camera’s hardware feature which enhances the video quality and makes it look real. Many UHD rippers out there aren’t able to preserve HDR10 quality but DVDFab UHD ripper fully preserves this camera feature.
The 4K TVs that don’t support HDR10 are still covered by DVDFab UHD ripper as you can use either the simple 4K or SDR for HDR10 non-compliant 4K TVs and HDTVs. Have a look at the DVDFab UHD ripper UI below. In the image below you can see all the useful options like selecting the audio, subtitles, editing the video, and changing the video settings. Have a look at the output formats and device-specific video conversion profiles of DVDFab UHD Ripper.
Disc Decryption: As I mentioned above that some commercially produced UHDs are copy protected and have some sort of encryption. But if you are using DVDFab ripper then the encryption will be automatically removed.
DVDFab 11 UHD Creator Review
If you are looking to create your own 4K ultra HD disc and ISOs then DVDFab 11 UHD Creator is there for you. You only need a video in any format and then you can create a UHD ISO or burn a physical disc (BD50 or BD25) using the DVDFab burning engine. The only benefit of this creator is that you can convert almost any format to a UHD disc or an ISO and watch that custom made UHD disc on your 4K UHD player on a large 4K TV screen. If you are using MKV or M2TS and Dolby Vision or HDR10 compatible videos then you can use the passthrough format which will equal the original video quality in the output format. This passthrough format will only let you save your UHD as an ISO with BD100 disc configuration. Here’s a screenshot of the DVDFab UHD creator below.
So this is the DVDFab 11 UHD Copy & Ripper & Creator review. Please find some additional info about DVDFab all in one 4K UHD solution below.
Faster Video Processing on Supported Hardware
If you have a supported computer hardware which comprises of at least Nvidia GeForce GTX 10 series graphics card and Intel Core i7 processors then you can avail the faster processing speeds. On a supported hardware DVDFab all in one 4K UHD solution automatically uses Nvidia CUDA, Intel Quick Sync, and AMD acceleration to speed up the UHD movies processing by many times as compared to the normal hardware. These hardware acceleration technologies are known to reduce the UHD movies processing times which means faster copying, ripping, conversion, and processing. But don’t worry if you don’t have such a powerful hardware as DVDFab 11 will work as usual on that computer hardware.
